Hello!
This newsletter will be quite short. I’ll have more to say soon, but for now I wanted to let you know that the Mardi Gras season begins today, January 6th, on the feast of Epiphany. There will be a parade honoring Joan of Arc in the French Quarter tonight, one that I imagine will be more somber than in years past as we grapple with the terrible attack that occurred on New Year’s Day. The city has started a fund for the victims - if you are able to donate, you can find more information here.
As ever, I have an online king cake class available during the months of Mardi Gras. Newsletter subscribers can get a 10% discount with the code PARADE. You can find the class here. It comes with a video and five bonus recipes for different styles of king cake, the sweet braided bread that we only break during the Mardi Gras season.
Being a part of the culture here in this city is one of the greatest joys of my life, in good times and bad.
Take care,
Bronwen
